Edward Cucuel - Après le bain (c.1911-12)
From 1909 to 1914, Edward Cucuel spent summers in Chiemgau with Leo Putz, a member of the Munich artist group Die Scholle. Until then, he worked mainly as a graphic artist and illustrator for newspapers, including in New York in the 1890s, after studying at his academy in San Francisco in Academy of Arts and in Paris at the progressive Académie Julian. The turning point in his work was the meeting with Leo Putz and the period around 1911, when under his influence he turned completely to impressionist plein air painting. Countless vignettes of summer life are created in a comfortable, spacious style. Numerous small lakes with secluded bathing bays at Hartmannsberg Castle provided the perfect backdrop for painting outdoor works, for which the two artists often traveled with up to three models.(Ketterer Kunst, Munich - Son oil on canvas, 47 x 65 cm)About the artwork:
