On an afternoon in mid-October 1889, Vincent van Gogh set up his easel in a newly plowed field and painted the 12th-century Romanesque tower and chapel at the entrance to the abbey of Saint-Paul-de -Mausole formerly belonged to the Augustinian order in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
