Henri Martin - Spring Lover

Henri Martin - Spring LoverBorn in Toulouse in 1860, Henri Martin found inspiration in the light and natural scenery of southern France throughout his career. Before purchasing his house at Labastide-du-Vert in 1900, Martin spent his summers in the south, and it was probably during one of these sojourns that the present work was painted. This work is related to the pointillist technique used by Martin in 1889, he commented: 'in pursuing the different effects of light, I was drawn to paint in a different way to create atmosphere gas. The light sparkles and spreads completely.'(Sotheby's, London - Oil on canvas, 86.2 x 70 cm)
