Vincent van Gogh - Portrait of Doctor Felix Rey) 1889)
Early on Christmas Eve morning 1888, a seriously injured man was taken to Arles hospital. The bleeding patient was seen by intern Felix Ray, 23, who was on duty that day. This patient, as one might guess, was Vincent Van Gogh, who, after a quarrel with Paul Gauguin, out of desperation, cut off the lower part of his ear with a razor and sent him to a brothel. When the artist was taken to the hospital, he not only suffered from severe blood loss but also suffered from hallucinations. Dr. Ray took care of Vincent during his 15-day hospital stay and continuously visited the artist at the Vang House after he was discharged. He became one of the few people who treated van Gogh well during the last months of his life in Arles.(Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow - Oil on canvas, 64 x 53 cm)About the artwork:
