Nicolas Poussin - The Eucharist (1647) Nicolas Poussin (June 15, 1594 – November 19, 1665) was a French classical painter. His works mainly demonstrate clarity, logic, order and favor lines over color. His work served as an alternative to the dominant Baroque style of the 17th century. Until the 20th century, he remained a great source of inspiration for classically inclined artists such as Jacques-Louis David, Jean-Auguste -Dominiqie Ingres and Paul Cézanne. He spent most of his working life in Rome, except for a short period when Cardinal Richelieu ordered him back to France to serve as First Painter to the King.
